Panthers Drop a Pair to UIC on Saturday

MEQUON, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team racked up 19 hits on Saturday but could not capitalize and dropped a doubleheader to UIC by scores of 7-0 and 12-5.

"I thought we played a really clean game," head coach Scott Doffek said. "We didn't pitch well enough collectively and the timely hits and double plays - that was the difference in the game."

UIC road the arm of Nate Peterson in game one as he tossed a complete game allowing six hits to the Panthers.

For MKE (13-19, 3-9 HL), Riley Frey kept the Flames off balance early, striking out the side in the second inning and holding UIC hitless through three frames.

UIC (14-17, 7-4 HL) finally got to Frey in the fourth for a run and followed with a two-run homer in the fifth to gain control.

The Flames added four more runs in the final two frames and Milwaukee could not get anything going offensively and dropped the opener.

In game two, UIC chased Panthers' starter Nick Gilhaus early as it tallied five hits and five runs off of the right hander.

Ryan Hoerter entered and was impressive for MKE, holding the Flames scoreless in 4.1 innings while allowing just four hits and striking out a pair.

Mark Connelly helped close the gap to 5-4 for the Panthers as he recorded a sacrifice fly in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth, but UIC quickly responded.

The Flames scored five runs across the seventh and eighth innings to rebuild the lead.

MKE totaled 13 hits in the game, but UIC turned four double plays to keep the Panthers quiet.

Luke Seidel was aboard all afternoon as he totaled six hits on the day including four in the nightcap.

Jack Thelen also found his way on, going 4-for-4 in game two and
