Box Score

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Defending national champion Miami pounded out 13 hits and used five pitchers to limit UWM to just six hits en route to a 10-3 win Wednesday night in front of 1,369 fans at Mark Light Stadium.

The Hurricanes (12-11) scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-all tie, then added five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away. Twelve of Miami's 13 hits were singles.

Dan Kardelis hit his first home run of the season for the Panthers (4-6), who grabbed a 1-0 lead when Adam Christ scored an unearned run on a wild pitch in the first. Dave Pudlosky added an RBI single in the third before Miami starter Kiki Bengochea (2-4) took control, working six innings to claim the win.

UWM starter Quintin Oldenburg (1-1) allowed six runs and was pulled after the first two batters reached base in the fifth. Rob Erickson allowed four more runs in relief as the Hurricanes put the game away.

The Panthers return to action Friday, opening a Midwest road trip with a single game at Northern Illinois. UWM will also play single games at Illinois Saturday and Sunday.
