INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to third-seeded Butler in the Horizon League Championships Thursday afternoon at North Central High School.

The sixth-seeded Panthers (11-10) played without top singles player Maddy Soule, who was sidelined by injury.

Butler won the doubles point and then won three singles matches in straight-sets, ending the match.

"Butler is a very good and deep team," UWM head coach Sean McInerney said. "We obviously missed Maddy but I thought we played hard and really competed against one of the best teams in the league. I am proud of the team for qualifying for the league tournament and it is important we are getting this experience. Our young team is learning about the atmosphere of a championship event and finding out even more about the level we have to get to."

The three singles matches that did not finish were the most competitive. Sammi Schoen was down just 4-3 in the second set of her match at second singles when the contest ended, while Kristin Kurer was trailing by the same score in the second set of her match at number-three. Plus, Megan Gow was up 2-0 in the second set of her match at four-singles after she fell in a tight, 7-5, battle in the first set.

UWM will square off with Wright State in the fifth-place match Friday morning. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs advance to a Friday semifinal against Cleveland State.
