DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team claimed the doubles point then won the final four singles matches in recording a 5-2 win over Drake Sunday.

The match was the spring opener for the Panthers, who got a pair of key singles wins from freshmen to capture the win over their Missouri Valley Conference foe.

Milwaukee opened the contest by winning two of the three doubles contests to go up 1-0 in the match. Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar captured a 6-3 win in the top doubles slot while Drake's number-two doubles team was also wrapping up a win. That left it up to Aerielle Pendleton and Dana Shannon, who secured a 7-5 win in the third slot to push the Panthers ahead.

Drake then won the first two singles matches that finished to move ahead in the match before Milwaukee had a quick and decisive answer. Tokar was the first Panther to wrap up a singles win, claiming a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the top spot. Alysa Straub followed that up quickly, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth spot.

Kristin Kurer and Dana Shannon then each claimed hard-fought wins to wrap up the match for Milwaukee. Kurer won in three sets in the sixth spot. Shannon claimed a straight-set victory in the fourth spot but did need a tiebreaker to finish things off.

Milwaukee will take next weekend off before returning to action Feb. 8 against Iowa State. The match will be the Panthers' home opener.
