Early Lead Not Enough Against Titans

UWM to play at Oakland Sunday

DETROIT – The Milwaukee tennis team grabbed an early lead but came up just short in a number of thrilling singles matches in a 6-1 loss at Detroit Mercy Saturday from Titan Tennis Courts.

"This is a disappointing loss," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "But, despite the loss, there were still plenty of positives to take away. We were right there at nearly every singles level and the team came out strong right away in doubles play. We'll learn from this and keep moving forward."

UWM jumped out to a quick lead after doubles play to start the day.

Alysa Straub and Berta Masdevall Masip showed why they're the top doubles pairing with a 6-3 win, before the freshmen tandem of Nicole Clarke and Eszter Zador posted a 6-3 win of their own at the No. 3 spot to give Milwaukee the early lead.

The Panthers fought hard and forced extras in three matches in an incredibly close match that finished with a deceptive final score.

Masdevall Masip, Straub and Hayley Marshall all went the full three sets but came up just short in the team's first conference road match of the year.

Milwaukee has a quick turnaround, taking on Oakland Sunday afternoon as part of this current five-match road trip.
