Oct. 1, 2000

MILWAUKEE-The UWM women's soccer team's solid defensive efforts led the team to a shutout and victory, as they swept MCC rival Wright State, 2-0, on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. The Panthers' win gives them a 2-0 record in the conference, and a 6-5-1 record overall.

Freshman forward Lisa Bengtsson scored first for UWM in the 14th minute off an assist from sophomore Kristin Munyon. The Panthers built a two-goal lead in the first half when senior midfielder Lindsey Munkwitz converted on a penalty kick at the 39:21 mark. The kick was awarded to UWM after freshman Megan Mann was taken down in Wright State's box.

UWM outshot Wright State 19-7, with an 11-2 advantage on shots-on-goal. Starting in her first match of the season, UWM freshman goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin recorded her first shutout and garnered the win.

"It was an impressive performance," said UWM coach Michael Moynihan. "It's nice to dominate a game that much, and not give up any goals or let them stick around. When we've played Wright State in the past, the games have always been close because we would always let them back in. It is great for us to go on the road and win a decisive victory in the conference."
