MILWAUKEE-Ryan Seymour scored two goals and added an assist to help the UWM men's soccer team win their Horizon League opener over Detroit, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Field. Freshman Antou Jallow and sophomore Kyle Lance also scored for Milwaukee (7-2, 1-0 Horizon League).

"We played well, but it was flattering to give them two goals," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "Detroit is the most direct team we've seen this season, and we had to play very disciplined against them. We sat back and then countered. It's actually the most disciplined the team has been."

Jallow scored unassisted in the 31st minute when he finished a loose ball from 15 yards out into the open net.

Seymour scored just four minutes later off an assist from Chad Dombrowski to take the 2-0 lead into halftime. The play began when Dombrowski won the ball in the Panthers' half and crossed it in over the Detroit defense. Seymour controlled it down with his chest and committed Detroit's keeper on a 1v1, dribbling past to score from 15 yards out.

"Detroit is a difficult team to break open, but that's what we did," Bennett said. "We created a lot of quality opportunities and we put four of them in."

Detroit's Alaye Camara put the Titans on the board in the 54th minute after beating two UWM defenders and hitting a soft shot past goalkeeper Chris Dadaian.

Seymour put the Panthers up, 3-1, when he finished a loose ball from six yards out in the 73rd minute. Lance scored Milwaukee's final goal just four minutes later, volleying home a cross from Seymour.

The Titans' indirect free kick was deflected into the Panthers' goal, giving David Perlin a goal in the 85th minute to cut UWM's lead to 4-2.

UWM outshot the Titans, 22-7, and took the advantage on corner kicks, 7-0.

The Panthers donned red, white and blue uniforms in their first home game since the Sept. 11 tragedy, showing respect for those who perished and those who saved lives during the terrorist attacks. The patriotic jerseys are being auctioned off through a silent bid with the opening bid at $100. All proceeds will go towards the organizations assisting those affected by the tragedy. Bids will be taken through Nov. 3, UWM's last regular home match of the season.

If interested in making a bid, please contact the ticketing and events department at (414) 229-2465 or attend a UWM men's soccer home game.
